When and where will the 2024 Paris Olympic Opening Ceremony events take place?
The Opening Ceremony of the 2024 Paris Summer Olympic Games is scheduled for Friday, 27 July 2024 in downtown Paris.
The unique event layout will be a first of its kind – as it will not use a stadium. Instead, Olympic athletes will be honored via a 6 kilometer boat parade on the River Seine appropriately called “The Olympic Seine”. The boats will depart from the Pont d’Austerlitz and travel northwest finishing in front of the Trocadéro (pictured above with Olympic Rings). The parade route will pass several famous Parisian landmarks including Notre Dame Cathedral, the Louvre, Orangerie & Orsay museums, the Tuilieries Garden, Place de la Concorde, Invalides, the Eiffel Tower & more!
Where can you buy tickets for the Opening Ceremony?
The format for the Opening Ceremony of the 2024 games was intended to allow most spectators to watch the parade for free (without tickets). Limited areas may require tickets for viewing and would be acquired through the official Olympics event organizers or our partner P1 Travel.

Where is the best place to stay for the Opening Ceremony of the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics?
Downtown Paris. And if you can find hotels and lodging along the River Seine with water views of the Opening Ceremony parade route, that would be even better!
The truth is lodging will be difficult to find during the Games, especially around the dates of the Opening Ceremony when most participants and spectators are in-country. Do your homework, check lodging availability regularly and book early. Finding the “perfect stay” will be challenging, so consider reserving a room to be safe while you continue to look for a more preferred option. If you plan to attend any Olympic competition events – you can always look for lodging near the venues too. The event list is further down this page.
*The Place du Trocadéro (where the parade ends) is on the western side of the Seine River directly across from the green space of the Champ des Mars (home of the Eiffel Tower).
