The Château de Fontainebleau (or Palace of Fontainebleau) is a well-known French former royal castle complex located in Fontainebleau, about 60km southeast of downtown Paris. The Château served as a residence for French monarchs and leaders from the 12th century until the 19th century. It was also occupied by the Prussians and Germans at various times as a result of war.
